Hinges for our french doors
Cheap hinges make for a cheap door.
Hinges and hardware must be able to withstand alot of the punishment that a french door can give. Doors are slammed, kicked, and otherwise
opened and closed almost on a daily basis.
The butt hinges we use are mortised hinges where one side of the hinge is placed in a mortise cut along the edge of the door and the other side
of the hinge is placed into the mortise in the door jamb.
For exterior french doors or patio doors we suggest ball bearing hinges which are made to withstand a heavier door and the pin is locked which prevents anyone from
removing the pin and gaining entry to your home. Ball bearing hinges provide a smoother operation over a longer period of time for heavier exterior doors.
Your interior french doors will have a removable pin which makes for easy door removal!
Hinge finishes
We offer 3 hinge finishes for your french doors:
- Polished Brass
- Satin Nickel
- Paint Grade Pre-Primed Steel
The thickness of your french doors determines the size of the hinges we use.
For 1-3/4" thick doors we can use a 4-1/2" x 4-1/2" butt hinge or 4" x 4" hinge. Doors that are 1-3/8" thick we use 3-1/2" x 3-1/2" hinges.
